Fun with a Purpose
Yes it possible to have fun and learn something at the same time. Troop 23 is proof of this. Come spend a weekly Troop meeting with us and see for yourself. Our Troop meets every Thursday night at 7:30pm. We meet at the Central Presbyterian Church on RT. 113 in Downingtown. We welcome everyone and hope you enjoy it as much as our scouts do. Our Troop is youth lead. This means that scouts run the troop. They plan the meetings and also plan all of our monthly outings and troop outings. The troop has a large group of older scouts that take the younger new scouts under their wings and show them the scouting way. We have leaders on staff that were also scouts in the troop at one time and have returned to continue helping out the younger scouts in advancement and learning.
Philmont in 2008
16 of our youth 14 and older will be treking to Philmont in 2008. They will spend the next year getting ready for Philmont by having monthly hikes stretching to 3 days of backpacking and eating on the trail. We have loads of experience to pull from with some of the older scouts making this trip in 2004.
Satellite Camping
Satellite camping was a vision we had for 2005 and it is now a dream come true. We have 4 Patrols, a Leadership Patrol and the Famous Silver Fox Patrol (Slightly older kids above 18 that are still scouts at heart). We Camp by Patrol in our own sites and do all our cooking and camping as seperate units. We get togethr on camping trips for day outings and night time camp fires as a troop. Our two younger or first year Patrols are lead by three life scouts each as they progress through their first year to First Class. Their Patrol Leaders make a one year commitment to see the Patrol through First Class where all other Patrols and the SPL and ASPL leadership are rotated by Troop Election every 6 months.
Venture Patrol
14 - 21 years old, male or female and want to experience camping and high adventure. The Venture Crew 23 is for you. They are in the process of planning a High Adventure Trip to Alaska in 2008 - 2009.
